June 23, 2017: The small detour & a new bike.

Yup that’s right this doesn’t look like South America… I was in Colombia day before yesterday, now I’m back in Langley BC (Vancouver) buying a shiny new 2017 Honda CRF250 Rally… If you’ve been following along, I left Canada February 6th, and just rode through the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama on Donkey my trusty 2010 BMW R1200GS & set sail on the legendary Stahlratte to Colombia… If you remember, I met a British gal named Claire in Mexico that is riding Argentina to Alaska solo on her XR250 Tornado. Let’s just say she and I needed to ride motorcycles together again and for the past few months we’ve been planning to ride the USA “Continental Divide” off road route from New Mexico to Banff, Alberta this July-Aug. I am SUPER STOKED since the “Divide” has been on my “Bucket List” for many years… Hence getting a 250 for this route 😉 Don’t worry though, Donkey is parked in a safe spot for the next 3 month detour… Huge thanks to Brian Bentley and Holeshot Langley Honda Dealership for all of the help for this new Moto, KTM Jacket & Klim Krios helmet 🤘Claire’s in Ensenada, Baja right now so I will be setting up this new bike over the next couple days with soft luggage/ testing it out and cannonballin’ down to meet her soon… You just never know who you will meet on your travels and where it will take you ! I will be flying back down to Donkey in Oct to continue on the South American leg to Tierra Del Fuego… So for the next three months you’ll be seeing two red Hondas rippin’ alot of dirt 😃 Huge thanks to Bumot Luggage for the help with the indestructible Defender Panniers on the BMW, unfortunately right now they do not have a soft luggage solution for the CRF250 Rally, so Giant Loop Great Basin & Touratech 49 litre waterproof duffel it is right now…
